Travel Info

Passport:
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months as of the day that you leave Morocco!!!

Clothing:
Bear in mind that Morocco is an Islamic land. Although women in the cities wear western clothing, the people in the mountains are not used to being around women dressed in this manner. We prefer that you don’t wear sleeveless or halter tops in the mountains.

Vaccinations:
Consult your local doctor. In the USA check with the Center for Disease Control. The following vaccinations are recommended: DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, and polio), typhoid, and hepatitis A.

Telephone:
There is not always coverage for your cell phone during the mountain bike trip. We provide a satellite phone for emergencies. In the event of an emergency, travelers can be reached at 00212-35607279 or 00212-72180463 (English language). The best and cheapest way to call from Morocco is via the so-called teleboutiques.

Accomodations:
The first and last nights you stay in a 3 or 4 star hotel. During the mountain bike trip you sleep in tents or with local residents.

Food and Water:
During your trip a Berber cook prepares your breakfast, an extensive (often warm) lunch, and dinner. For snacks, bring plenty of muesli and energy bars along. Mineral water can often be bought in villages. Never drink from a well without purifying the water. Bring disinfectant gel to clean your hands after a sanitary stop, and before eating. Never eat unpackaged ice.

Money and Tips:
Because salaries are very low, workers expect tips when they give service. This also applies to the driver of the support vehicle and the cook. At the end of the trip we take a collection out of which the tips are paid. Figure on approximately €10 / £7 per traveler. The Moroccan unit of money is the Dirham, which is worth about € 0,10 / £ 0.067. In the big cities there are adequate numbers of automatic teller machines. You can withdraw a maximum of 4000 Dirham per day. Euros can be exchanged for Dirham in all banks and most hotels.
